This course introduces you to efficient hinting workflows for both CFF and TTF scenarios in Glyphs, including setting up for autohinting algorithms. We will especially focus on potential pitfalls, how to find and fix them, or how to avoid them from the start. Familiarity with Glyphs.app essential.
Glyphs Kerning & Spacing

This course introduces you to efficient spacing and kerning workflows in Glyphs, including automating. We will especially focus on potential pitfalls, how to find and fix them, or how to avoid them from the start. Familiarity with Glyphs App essential; basic knowledge of Python recommended.

Font Engineering

A sound intro to font engineering. By the end, you’ll understand how an OpenType font works internally, be able to edit a .glyphs file, manipulate a CFF and TTF post-export, produce variable fonts, and learn to track down & fix tech issues. (A parallel Python workshop is free to students of this course.)
Glyphs Python Crash Course
with Rainer Scheichelbauer
A 6-hour course introducing you to Python for font engineering. It will teach you to read and modify existing Python code, and get you started writing your own code from scratch. Special attention is given to automating tasks in Glyphs. This course is available free of charge when you register for the Font Engineering course.
Advanced Tech for Sloped Arabic
with Toshi Omagari
Six hours of teaching over 3 weeks. This course is for intermediate to expert level designers who want to make an Arabic typeface with sloped baseline, but do better than simply positioning “entry” and “exit” anchors. Participants need to be familiar with the basics of Arabic type design and Glyphs, and open for manual OpenType coding.
Variable Fonts Workshop

Finally make the move from static to variable font design! You’ll learn to create your own variable fonts, including drawing for delta interpolation, setting up axes, masters and instances, making the most of OpenType features for variable fonts, and much more. Beginners welcome!
Advanced Post-Production

Take control of your compiled OpenType font after exporting from Glyphs, and automate post-production. Topics covered: Manipulate fonts with FontTools/ttxl; build your own command-line tools; set up fontbakery tests; & write shell scripts for automating post-production.
Workshop: Color Fonts
