Matthew Carter (1937 — )
If you’ve used a computer, then you’ve almost certainly used Matthew Carter’s fonts. He is the designer of, among others, Verdana (1996), Georgia (1996) and Tahoma (1999).
While still a teenager he studied punch cutting in Holland under P.H. Raedisch, Kan van Krimpen’s assistant. In 1981 he co-founded the independent digital type foundry Bitstream Inc., along with Mike Parker.
