Our middle daughter, Caroline, in the web design business, just emailed me this wonderful Zapf film. It alerts fond memories of more that 50 years ago, when Hermann came to my father’s, Bror Zachrisson, star seminars for Scandinavian designers and students at the Graphic Institute, and kept the audience at their toes with his brilliant lectures on calligraphy, lettering and design. He came to these seminars at least five times during the period 1952-1971.
I also have, right across the room from where I am sitting in our private press, Officina Fraterna, in Djursholm, Sweden, a framed sheet with an alphabet (just like the one Hermann is drawing on the black board in the film) actually made by the man himself in this very room in June of 1959. I saw it myself, as I was standing by. Two weeks later my father gave me the alphabet, framed, for my 24th birthday.
When was the film made? It is a fine piece of work.
