Free fonts from FontFont
I was going to save these until the next the week in type, but why keep people waiting. In the world of free fonts there are numerous lemons; however, these from the FontFont library are of exceptional quality. I’m pretty sure these will only be available for a limited time, so grab them while you can.
Packed to bursting with OpenType features is FF Nuvo OT. The medium weight is free. Designed by Siegfried Rückel:
FF Chambers Sans OT. The Medium Italic is free to download. Designed by Verena Gerlach:
By all means download and use these fonts, but don’t redistribute them. They’re free to download, but they’re not freeware. Enjoy!
See you very soon for the week in type.

Thanks for the heads up, Johno. FF Nuvo OT and FF Chambers Sans OT both look very nice.
I wish more type foundries would release single weights of certain typefaces—it would probably bring in more paying customers in the long run.

ohhhhhhhhh the ligature in FF Chambers makes me swoon.. lovely font!
the way the arms have a slight downward angle on the left but not the right on the t (and i, without the right half) is lovely.. thank you sir! :)

I love that discretionary i+t lig. Might be interesting in a logo/logotype.

It might just be me, or do you not often seen a ligature in logos? I wonder if it’s because the general public wouldn’t understand what they are when blown up big?
The tagline for where I work could employ an ‘fi’ ligature, but it isn’t used (except once in a while, which I’m sure is by accident).. really bugs me as ligatures are one of the things that makes typography beautiful

Thanks for this! I have a special love for the s+t ligature, and I specifically like the curly one in FF Nuvo OT. I also think the alternative “@” symbol is quite funny.
I’m not really that fond of FF Chambers Sans OT, but I’m sure I’ll find a good use for it one day.

I couldn’t find that alternative @ until I discovered it’s a small-cap @. Yes, very nice:

Quite wonderful. Now I just wish I had the money to buy the rest of them.

Ah fantastic! Nothing like a free font from FontFont to brighten up the weekend. Perhaps I’ll make a wallpaper out of one of them, or something like that.
By the way, love the new admin in WordPress. And the addition of twitter/flickr/facebook links just below this is also very convenient!

I think giving away the odd free font is definitely the best way to tempt people to hand over money in the long run.
Your first experience of a professionally designed typeface is likely to be so different from your previous experience of free type, with dreadful kerning and barely any glyphs, that you suddenly see the value of having a handful of pro typefaces instead of 10,000 crap ones.

Very nice quality free fonts. Gatta love Font Font. By the way John have you seen that iphone/ipod touch app that Font Shop came out with called FontShuffle? It’s really cool, but in my opinion it needs a little work.

There’s a new FontFont available for free: FF Reminga OT Bold Italic by the great Xavier Dupré. The all-new OpenType FF Reminga is an improved version of an underused FontFont classic.
